How to use 3rd party clients to answer inbound and place outbound calls

SIP and Softphone Support

This guide shows EatWell Meal Kits users how to download Linphone, sign in with Fertu-managed softphone credentials, and place a test call to confirm the softphone is working correctly.

Note: Linphone screens may look slightly different depending on the version installed, but the setup flow is the same.

Before you start

Make sure you have:

  • A Windows or macOS computer
  • An internet connection
  • Your Fertu softphone credentials
  • A test number or extension to call

Information you will receive from Fertu

  • SIP username or extension
  • SIP password
  • Domain or host
  • Port, if required
  • Transport, if required
  • Outbound proxy, if required
  • Associated phone number or extension

1. Download and install Linphone

Windows

  1. Open the official Linphone download page.
  1. Download the Windows desktop client.
  1. Open the installer after the download completes.
  1. Follow the installation prompts.
  1. Open Linphone when installation finishes.

macOS

  1. Open the official Linphone download page.
  1. Download the macOS desktop client.
  1. Open the downloaded file.
  1. Move Linphone into Applications if prompted.
  1. Open Linphone from Applications.

2. Open Linphone and add your account

  1. Launch Linphone.
  1. If Linphone opens to a welcome or setup screen, continue to account setup.
  1. Choose the option to use a Third-Party SIP Account (click on β€œI Understand” to continue).

3. Sign in with your Fertu credentials

  1. Enter the credentials provided by Fertu.
  1. Complete any additional connection fields using the values shared with you.
  1. Save the account.
  1. Wait for Linphone to check and register the connection.

  • Username or extension
  • Password
  • Domain

4. Enforce Security and Set Media Encryption

  • Navigate to Linphone settings

  1. In Security / Encryption, find Media encryption.
  1. Select SRTP from the dropdown.
  1. Make sure Mandatory media encryption is turned on.
  1. Save once both settings match the screenshot.

What this does

  • SRTP encrypts the audio for the call.
  • Turning on Mandatory media encryption means Linphone will only place calls using encrypted media.

5. Place a test call

  1. Confirm Linphone shows the account as connected, registered, online, or ready.
  1. Dial a test number
  1. Confirm the call connects successfully.
  1. Confirm you can hear the other side clearly.
  1. Confirm the other side can hear you clearly.
  1. End the call.

What success looks like

Your setup is complete when:

  • Linphone signs in successfully
  • The account shows as registered or connected
  • The test call connects
  • Two-way audio works

Troubleshooting

If Linphone does not connect or the test call fails:

  • Recheck the username and password
  • Recheck the domain or host
  • Recheck any port, transport, or outbound proxy settings
  • Confirm you have an active internet connection
  • Restart Linphone and try again
  • Contact the Fertu team if the issue continues

  • Enter the credentials listed above
  • Save the account and wait for it to show as connected or registered
  • Place a test call to {{test_number}}

Success criteria

Your setup is complete when:

  • Linphone shows the account as connected or registered
  • The test call connects
  • You can hear the other side
  • The other side can hear you
